My 1st Birch Box 📦 – January

Hello everyone and welcome back to Mimosas and Marionettes! If this is your first time here my name is Rosalinda and today I’m so excited to share my very first Birchbox with you! My first box arrived in January, I know I’m a little late but better late than never!

Birchbox is a subscription service dedicated to sending you skin care, hair, and makeup samples personalized to fit your beauty needs! I see a lot of ladies talk about this subscription service and I was always very curious.

I joined in January because they had an exclusive deal happening for first time subscribers. For the price of one Birchbox you would get TWO! When I received the email I knew I had to give it a try!

Today I wanted to bring you my honest opinions as well as review the products they sent me! So let’s get to it!

My package arrived in a large padded mailer as it was delivered right to my door step which was awesome! I pulled out two small boxes with lovely graphics!

The first box I want to talk about is my January box!

Look at this cute little box! The images of the girls doing yoga were adorable. I love how colorful it is and I can totally reuse it to package up some of my Poshmark sales! haha!

The box says Hello 2017! Such a cute opening quote! Simple and straight to the point! I think it gets you in the right state of mind to open up the box and see the contents!

The first thing I pulled out from this box was the Wilma Schumann European Skin Care Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads.

I’d never heard of this brand before as I was so excited to try them! I am such a sucker for undereye treatments and masks.

These eye pads have 100% pure collagen and feel absolutely great on your skin. They are like little jelly packs for your face! You definitely need to try these if you feel like you need a boost. I felt like I had just left a spa after using them. I also loved that they are cruelty free! Major plus in my book!

The next thing I pulled out was the whish Shave Creme. I’d heard mixed reviews on this product and wasn’t sure what to expect when I first used it.

The tube it came in was almost empty when I arrived and I think I only got like 2 uses out of this sample which I guess isn’t that bad.

I wasn’t impressed by this product and would probably not recommend it.

The texture is like any other shave Creme out there and it downs thane much of a scent. I also felt pretty sticky after using it. Even after rinsing my legs and washing my body I felt very dry in the areas where I used this product. Overall really disappointed in this sample.

Next product is the amika: Perk Up Dry Shampoo. I’m typically not a dry shampoo fan. Although my hair gets oily pretty fast I don’t really buy dry shampoo.

I was really impressed by this dry shampoo. It smells great (Sea Buckthorn Berry) and the sample was actually a decent size. I still have a lot left and I’ve used it now for a couple of weeks. Overall very impressed and would definitely purchase a full size version of this product. One downside to this dry shampoo is that it does leave a white powdery tint after you spray. If you have pitch black hair like mine… then it will more than likely be a problem. I usually toss my hair a couple of times to make sure the product blends out into my hair without leaving a white streak.

Next up is this awesome sample of the Revealed Smoky Eye Shadow Palette by Costal Scents. At first I was so confused on why they would send me a “Sample” of the palette. I don’t get all the shades so I don’t know how this qualifies as a sample. haha! However it was awesome to have a makeup product in my Birchbox! The shadows are so creamy and very pigmented. They have a slight shimmer to them and I have created many smoky looks with just these two shades!

I was very impressed with this sampler duo pack and it did make me want this palette!

Here are some swatches!

They look a little sheer in the light that the picture! Overall I loved this sample!

the last thing in my first January Birchbox was this lovely sample of the Marcelle New-Age LumiPOWER 3-in-1 Moisturizer!

When I saw that this sample was included in my box this month I got really excited. I’ve heard really awesome things about the Marcelle line and had been meaning to try their products out now for some time. I haven’t purchased a new moisturizer in a while because i still have a lot left from my recent FRESH purchase. I’ll link it HERE for you to go and check out!

I did a little swatch here for you so you could see the product. Its very soft and goes on so light. I love wearing it under my makeup and have been using it after I wash my face every night. Its so moisturizing and excellent for all skin types. I also apply it in my eye contour area like the instructions say and have noticed a difference in that area of my face.

I’ve used in consistently now for about 2 weeks and absolutely love it! I will probably be purchasing this once I run out of moisturizer in the near future.

Alright that was it for my January Birchbox! I was totally stoked to see every product in this box! I felt like they really catered to my personalized needs and provided me with the best products to try.

This next box was completely FREE with my 1st time subscription. I couldn’t pass up such a great deal like that so I signed up right away! Here is what I got in this FREE Birchbox!

First lets talk about the super cute box! Look at those awesome graphics! The detail that Birchbox adds to each individual box each month is so amazing! I love the designs and they always make me feel so special when I get such a high quality product in the mail.

The first thing in this box were two (2) Curl Enhancing Smoothie foil packs with tons of product and a small bottle (3.2 fl oz) of the Curl & Shine Shampoo! Both great products from the SheaMoisture line!

I have to say I am very impressed with the SheaMoisture line of products. I had never tried the Shea Moisture brand before and now I am absolutely hooked. I was a little scared to use the smoothie in my hair because I thought it would weigh my hair down but in moderation this smoothie stuff is HEAVEN SENT! After I get out of the shower I put my hair up in a then towel and I let the towel soak up as much moisture from my hair as possible. I then discard the towel and I apply about a quarter sized amount to the palm of my hand, rub them together, and apply it to my still damp hair. I  scrunch my hair from the ends up until all the product is off my palms. After my hair drys my wavy locks are oh so beachy and perfect! It not only smells amazing it also enhances my wavy frizzy curls and makes them look so swirly and bouncy! I must post some pics on my Instagram account! Make sure to follow me @mimosasandmarionettes! Overall super happy with this being in my box! A total score in my opinion!

Next up was another hair product. This is the Phyto Paris Huile Soyeuse! I was so surprised to see such a large sample in my Birchbox! I was totally excited to try this and immediately opened it and applied it to my hair!

This amazing product is designed specifically for thin or dry hair that gets weighed down easily by natural oils. When I first applied it just like the product above I thought this thick white product would just sit so heavy on my hair but it actually turns into a thin soft oil that lightly illuminates and softens your hair! I love using this when I am having a bad hair day and just want to put my hair up in a messy bun because it turns my messy bun into an instant classy updo by taming my flyaways and quickly hydrating and smoothing out my frizziness! Overall this product is a must have! Click HERE to check it out on the Birchbox website! The full size retails for $40.00!

Next up was this small sample of mally Volumizing Mascara. Like most of these samples I’d never heard of the mally brand before but I am so glad I did.

This sample has really gone a long way for me. It stays on all day and doesn’t smudge. Its perfect for getting dramatic lashes.

The formula is so great and I’m considering purchasing the full size. It doesn’t get clumpy and its so easy to come right off. A 10/10 in my book for sure!

Next up was a lip stain by The Balm Cosmetics. I’m a big fan of lip stains. I am always on the hunt for the perfect lip stain. I look for something that goes on fast and easy and looks super natural. I usually wear them to work because when I’m in the office I don’t have time to apply constantly or worry about my lip color moving and getting all over my teeth or face!

This shade is named Beauty Queen and its an almost ruby red shade. I have to be honest and say that this wasnt my favorite. The sample looked used and just very old. It hardly had any product and was super sticky on my lips.

I do love the applicator but I had to apply a few coats before it did its job. I was very disappointed because I’ve been dying to try The Balm Cosmetics line for a few months now and this was such a let down! Apparently this is sold out everywhere and has probably been discontinued!

Last but not least was the lovely sample of Skin Co. Roma Truffle Body Milk. The full size retails for $30.00! I haven’t opened the sample I received in my Birchbox because I’m saving it to take with me when I travel this summer!  I have however tried it before and its a great body moisturizer.

I am such a fan and this sample will get me through a couple of days!

Birchbox has been so much fun to unbox every month and I can’t wait for you to see what I got in my February Birchbox! Every product is so useful and great quality! I am so excited for all of my future boxes to come! I am definitely going to keep my subscription. At least for now!

If you are interested in checking out Birchbox and want to learn more about it please feel free to click HERE! Birchbox is only $10.00 a month and its a great subscription box for those of you who like to sample out products before you purchase them! I have definitely purchased my favorite products directly from their website!

  1. I totally agree- their packaging is TOP notch! I also use mine for Poshmark sales too, great minds think alike!

I recently re joined Birchbox after a hiatus to test out Ipsy (still undecided on which I like better…) and I believe I got those same Collagen Eye pads in my February Box. I’ve been meaning to try them out and after hearing how much you love them, now I’m dying to!
